[Seed] Is Energo-fascism in Your Future?

advertisement

By Michael Klare

Text taken directly from the article

Unlike Islamo-fascism, Energo-fascism will, in time, affect nearly every person on the planet. Either we will be compelled to participate in or finance foreign wars to secure vital supplies of energy, such as the current conflict in Iraq; or we will be at the mercy of those who control the energy spigot, like the customers of the Russian energy juggernaut Gazprom in Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia; or sooner or later we may find ourselves under constant state surveillance, lest we consume more than our allotted share of fuel or engage in illicit energy transactions. This is not simply some future dystopian nightmare, but a potentially all-encompassing reality whose basic features, largely unnoticed, are developing today.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Gee, I came here expecting an exegesis of the most noted players of "energo-fascism" namely the proto-nationalism of Putin and Ahmadinejad not to mention Hugo Chavez and instead I get the same tired claptrap that it's all mainly the fault of the United States. Surprise, surprise.

    Mr. Harrison,

    exegesis

Great word. I had to look that one up.

...instead I get the same tired claptrap that it's all mainly the fault of the United States. Surprise, surprise

I could say, in a similar vein, Gee, it's that Harrison guy barging into yet another of my postings with the same, tired cult-of-Americana claptrap. Surprise, surprise, surprise... But what would that accomplish?

That said, you're attempts at characterizing this article are flawed at best. I'm the first to admit that Mr. Klare is a resounding critic of many of the U.S.'s policies, as should you be. While there's nothing about Hugo Chavez, there's ample criticism of both Russia and Iran, who are implied to be every bit the "proto-Nationalists" you site, and rightly so. While there are glancing similarities between Islamism (as opposed to Islam) and fascism, they are base similarities of methodology and, indeed, pale in comparison to the very terrifying threat of energy supply peaks and the aftermath of the same, a situation which might very literally produce death and suffering on par with the Third Reich.

Please, try and critique the entire content of an article instead of posting gut-reactions to a few, simple "trigger-sentences." Thousands of lives are in the balance of these policies, which are determined, to a degree, by the voting citizenry's interpretation of geopolitics and the candidates they pick to confront the same. The blood and the fault in invading a foreign nation is on your hands and mine every bit as much as the soldiers who are killed and who do the killing in our names, as is the aftermath of the disastrous energy policies our Executive continues to push. These reindeer games of discrediting and subterfuge accomplish nothing but to make the entire affair a distasteful shouting match. I'd frankly rather have no comments than hundreds like that.
