Investigative reporter David Strahan, author of The Last Oil Shock, posted an article on his website in November stating that the IEA denied having predicted Peak Oil. The article references the IEA's prediction in the Summer 2007 of an oil "supply crunch" by 2015, due to demand out pacing supply.

Thing is, the International Energy Agency would be very hesitant to call Peak Oil what it is. Since the theory is based on the belief that supply has peaked and will drop precipitously, the reality of whether it's actually happened is really irrelevant. The IEA even suggesting that Peak Oil has occurred might actually cause it to occur, something that would throw the world economy into crisis because of the expectation of a rise in oil prices.
